You Don't Need a Platform. You Need a List of Names.
The most powerful evangelism strategy in the world is already sitting in your phone's contact list. Here's how to actually use it — and four free tools that help.
When the man in Mark 5 finally met Jesus — freed, clothed, in his right mind — he begged to get in the boat and leave with Him. It's the most understandable request in the Gospels.
Jesus said no. "Go home to your own people," He told him, "and tell them how much the Lord has done for you." Not to a stage. Not to a stadium. Home.
That is still, overwhelmingly, how it happens. Ask almost anyone at Gage Park in September how they first came to faith and you will not hear about a billboard. You'll hear a name — an aunt, a coworker, a neighbour who kept showing up.
The word for it is oikos
The New Testament uses a Greek word for this that we don't really have in English: oikos. It means household, but wider — your extended circle, the people whose lives are genuinely entangled with yours. Family, close friends, the people you work beside, the parents you nod to at school pickup.
When whole households come to faith in Acts, this is what's happening. The Gospel travels along the relationships that already exist. It always has.
Which is quietly good news, because it means the qualification for being useful to God is not confidence, theological training, or a personality that enjoys talking to strangers. The qualification is that you already know some people.
Five names is enough
Here is the whole practice, and it is deliberately small: write down five names. Pray for them. Stay available to them. Invite one of them to something.
Not five people you intend to convert. Five people you intend to love on purpose — which is a different and much more sustainable thing. You are not responsible for the outcome. You're responsible for the faithfulness.
Most of us don't do this, not because we disagree with it, but because it stays vague. A vague intention to "be a good witness" produces almost nothing. Five specific names on a specific list, prayed over on a specific day, produces a surprising amount.
Why a festival cares about this
Jesus Festival is free, outdoors, and full of food and music for a reason. It is a low-friction place to bring someone. Nobody has to walk into an unfamiliar building or work out when to stand up.
But a festival can only ever be a doorway. The invitation still has to come from a person, and the friendship still has to continue in October. That's the part that lasts, and it's the part no event can do for you.
So the most useful thing we could give you before September isn't another announcement. It's a nudge to write down the names.
