Pastors: How Your Church Can Help Carry Jesus Festival 2027
Jesus Festival is many churches standing together. Here is where a congregation fits — prayer, teams, baptism, follow-up — and how to start before the dates are set.
Jesus Festival Hamilton has never belonged to one church. It is many congregations, ministries and ordinary believers standing together in a public park for one reason: to lift up Jesus where the whole city can see.
The 2027 dates are not announced yet. That is exactly why this is the right moment to talk. Churches that start praying and planning now arrive in September with a team that already knows its role — and with people back home ready to welcome whoever God brings through the park.
Why churches carry this together
A city-wide festival does something no single congregation can do on its own. It puts the Church in front of Hamilton as one body, across denominational lines, with nothing to sell and nobody to recruit to a brand. The message is Jesus, and the invitation is to Him.
It also does something for churches. Pastors who have prayed together on the bandshell stage find it easier to call each other in February. Volunteers who served side by side at the baptism tank do not see the church down the street as competition anymore. Unity becomes something you have done, not something you talk about.
Start with prayer
Every Jesus Festival so far began in prayer long before a stage went up. The simplest way for a congregation to join is to pray — for the city, for the churches standing together, and for the people who will walk into Gage Park not yet knowing Jesus.
Put it in your Sunday prayers. Give your prayer team the festival as a focus for a season. Our seven-day guide to praying for Hamilton is written so any small group can use it as it is.
Find your church's team
It takes hundreds of hands to make two days in a park happen. In 2026 the festival ran twenty volunteer teams, and almost every one of them is a natural fit for a congregation that wants to serve together:
Prayer Ministry, Freedom & Inner Healing, Baptism, and Evangelism & Outreach for churches with a heart for ministry in the moment. Greeting, Information, Children & Family, and BBQ & Food Service for churches that love hospitality. Stage Setup & Teardown, Grounds & Cleanup, Parking, Security & Safety, and First Aid & Medical for the people who quietly make everything work. And the Free Clothing Booth, Vendor Setup & Hospitality, Stage Management & Artist Hospitality, and Video & Photography teams for everyone else.
A church that takes a team — a youth group running cleanup, a men's ministry on setup, a prayer team holding a tent all day — serves the city and comes home closer to each other.
Be ready for the people who say yes
In 2026, early reports counted more than 70 people giving their lives to Jesus and more than 50 baptisms in the park. Every one of them needs a church on the Sunday after.
This is the most important thing a local church brings to the festival, and it happens back home. Have people at the festival who can pray with someone and exchange contact details. Have a welcome ready the following week. Know who on your team will call a new believer, open the Gospel of John with them, and walk with them through baptism if they have not taken that step yet.
A festival is a moment. A church is a presence. The festival can start a fire; only a local church can keep it burning.
Bring your congregation
Not everyone will serve, and that is fine. Encourage your people to come as a church, sit together on the lawn, worship with believers from across the city, and bring the neighbour, coworker or family member they have been praying for. The festival is built so that someone who would never come to a church building can come to a park.
