Could Your City Have a Jesus Festival? What Hamilton Learned
It began in Hamilton in 2024 and reached Niagara in 2026. If you have stood in Gage Park and thought, “My city needs this,” here is what we have learned.
Jesus Festival began in Hamilton in 2024 as a vision for a gathering with a few churches. Thousands came. By 2026 it had reached a second city: the first Jesus Festival Niagara, where the City of Niagara Falls lit the Falls in yellow, the festival's theme colour.
Almost every year someone stands on the lawn at Gage Park and says, “My city needs this.” This is not a step-by-step manual — every city is different — but it is an honest account of what Hamilton has learned, for anyone who feels that tug.

1. It starts in prayer, long before a stage
Every Jesus Festival so far began with people praying for their city long before anyone booked a stage. If you feel called to this, start there. Gather a few people who will pray with you for months. Ask God whether this is His idea or just a good one.
2. Many churches, not one brand
The heart of Jesus Festival is churches standing together across denominational lines, with Jesus — not any ministry's name — at the centre. In Hamilton, the connections built between churches at the first festival have lasted ever since.
Talk to pastors early, listen more than you pitch, and hold the vision with open hands. If it only belongs to you, it will not belong to the city.
3. Public, open and free
Hamilton's festival happens in a public park for a reason: people who would never walk into a church building will walk across a lawn. Every Hamilton festival so far has been free to attend, with free food, a free kids area and free prayer. In 2026 that meant more than 3,000 free hot dogs and drinks.
Free costs someone something. In Hamilton, churches, volunteers, businesses and individuals give so that nobody pays to hear about Jesus. Public spaces also come with rules; learn early what your municipality requires for an event in a park.
4. Keep Jesus at the centre
Worship is the heart of the day, and the Gospel is clearly shared. Food, music and bouncy castles are good gifts, but they are not the point. In 2026 Hamilton held altar calls on Friday night and Saturday, and early reports counted more than 70 people giving their lives to Jesus.
5. Be ready for people to say yes
Plan for response before you plan the lineup. Train a prayer team. If churches will baptize, prepare for it — Hamilton has baptized people in a tank in the middle of the park, more than 50 in 2026 alone. Most importantly, know where every new believer will go on the Sunday after.
A festival is a moment. A church is a presence. If there is no follow-up, the weekend becomes a memory instead of a beginning.
6. Let the momentum keep moving
In Hamilton the second year carried the festival's momentum into everyday outreach through Love on Hamilton, with record numbers of people sharing the love of Jesus on the streets. The festival is a catalyst; the mission is year-round.
Where to begin
